What a week it's been at Reggy’s Plants. We've spent a couple of days this week visiting our growers in Westland, Netherlands, who are responsible for the high quality houseplants we deliver. The trip allowed us to hand-select some extremely rare plants and new varieties of existing favourites.
The sheer scale of the industry will forever amaze me. One particular grower told us how costly a single mistake can be, with 1 of 4 greenhouses housing over 600,000 of the same plant - you wouldn’t want to spread the wrong fertiliser in that greenhouse!
We also had the opportunity to visit the tallest greenhouse in Europe, with plants reaching up to 80 feet. Slightly too large for us to deliver but seeing the size a Strelitzia plant can get to after years and years of care was quite remarkable.
More incredibly, many of the growers remembered us. Having not visited for over a year this really struck me. Many of them went on to stress a notable change in industry practice as retailers no longer see the importance of visiting and are happy to buy from images sent through.
However this was not the case for us as we were shown rare plants that haven't been sold in the UK before - making Reggy's Plants a UK exclusive seller of some exciting new varieties - watch this space for future plant drops!
All in all it was another fantastic trip and showed the team the importance of what strong supplier relationships can have for you, our end customer.
