Summer is in full swing and like us I hope you're enjoying the sunny weather. This warm whether doesn't come without some concern, especially if you're a houseplant parent. Read this short article to learn exactly how often to water your houseplants.
We've always advised that you stay away from a schedule when watering plants as this can lead to overwatering, root rot and an unhealthy plant. HOWEVER, that's not to say that having a loose schedule this time of year would be wrong. We'd advise you check in on your plant once a week for possible signs that it may need a water...
- Soil dryness: Using your finger, check the potting soil and test if the top two inches of soil are dry. If these top layers of soil are dry then give your plant a drink.
- Weight of pot: A slightly harder indicator for the newer plant parent is picking your houseplant up and testing via weight. Dry soil is much lighter than wet soil, so you should be able to feel considerable weight difference.
- Signs of wilt: You may have noticed leaves dropping or your houseplant looking generally unhealthy, if that's the case it more often than not needs a drink. BUT make sure to check your soil as variables such as light conditions could impact wilting too.
Generally, houseplants need watering every 1-3 weeks but try and keep a closer eye on your houseplants in the warmer months. If you have a question about a particular houseplants, feel free to reach out on live chat and our 24/7 care team would be happy to help.
